Topsy was unable to get pregnant for three years but became pregnant on her first cycle after getting WINNINGEDGE Silver! - see below.

Early 2009
The foal has been born and Christine has named him Silver.
See below for the update.

Dear Malcolm

It was a nice surprise to see Topsy featured in the latest Equifeast news leaflet under "rescue, rehab and project horses". I got my copy at the start of the week just after we had her blood tested to see if she was in foal.

You might remember that told you that I started her on CC&C to help with behavioural problems associated with catching and foot trimming and then went on to feed her Winning Edge Silver. The reason I gave the Winning Edge a try was Topsy's other little problem…her last foal, Nugget (above), is doing fine and is now training to be a ride and drive with his new owners, but that was three years ago and I haven't been able to get her in foal since…until now! I'm absolutely thrilled to get a positive result and am sure that the supplement helped. She only got covered a few times on her first season of the year and after that I left it to fate.

The decision to try Winning Edge came after I phoned your helpline to ask if there was a broodmare/covering supplement that I could try and the answer was "No, sorry, not yet, but if I was desperate to get a mare in foal I might try Winning Edge Silver – no guarantees, but at least it has everything she might need as a broodmare in it". I said that there was nothing to be lost by giving it a go before giving up the idea of breeding a little coloured. Unfortunately I can't remember the nice lady's name but you need to track her down and say a HUGE thank you from me – there was no sales pressure or promises, just a helpful pair of ears. (It was Charlotte)

So is this the first claim to an Equifeast foal? I hope it will have lots of white on it and then I can call it Silver! Attached is a (not very good) photo of Topsy with her last foal. I'll keep you updated on the progress, behaviour-wise she is much more chilled out about life in general.

Incidentally, the dad, Storm (see below), came to me in rather poor condition and as an unproven colt - he's now looking fab after sharing Topsy's Winning Edge. More about him later when I get some photos of him for you.

A million thanks again to the member of staff that helped, I do hope she can remember the phone call amongst the many that they must deal with.

Very best wishes

Chris FitzGerald (BHSAI)

Storm the sire of Topsy's current pregnancy.

Dear Malcolm and Charlotte,

Please find attached a photo of Topsy's new foal, Silver (no prizes for guessing the inspiration for the name, and yes I know it's not the best name for a coloured pony!).

He is as you can see big and bonny and has already learnt all about feed bowls. Topsy foaled outside with absolutely no problems and Silver is a cheeky little brat who likes eating, galloping around the field and being scratched on the withers, in that order.

We think that Silver will make a good allrounder, he is certainly not lacking in boldness, or possibly a show pony as he has a lot of presence, as long as we could persuade him not to sit in the judge's lap! Whatever he turns out to be we will have a lot of fun with him.

Also attached is a picture of my colt Marty, who I purchased last year rather lacking in condition as a yearling, I was hoping to bring him on as a stallion but things did not look too hopeful as he hadn't "dropped" all the relevant bits and I was worried that I had ended up with a rig. However after sharing Topsy's Winning Edge Silver for a couple of weeks there was a slow but sure improvement and the problem has now corrected itself, much to my relief! Have you had any other similar results for colts?

Best wishes, keep up the good work!

Regards

Christine FitzGerald
