Show Jumping - Susi Rogers-Hartley
Dear Malcolm,
Lovely to speak to you earlier.
Thought I'd send you a few photos. I
am a Grade 1 Para Equestrian show jumper and
compete up to British Novice
level BSJA. I sustained a spinal injury whilst serving in the Royal Navy
which left me confined to a wheelchair unable to walk. My disability
has not hindered my determination
to ride and I returned to the
saddle 5 years ago. Since then I've done unaffiliated jumping, hunter
trials and had 3 good seasons with the West Norfolk.
I joined the British Para Show Jumping Association
last year where my disability was classified as Grade 1. I bought Seamus 3 months ago, a big Irish 16.3hh gelding to further my show jumping career. On our first outing we came 3rd and 5th competing
with able-bodied riders! Due to spooking and bolting whilst hacking (he is not very brave!) I started him on Cool, Calm & Collected which has worked wonders. He is a wonderful horse to ride and handle and as you can
see from the photos, I can even lunge him - very useful when I'm too tired to ride!
Regards
Susi
